Sugar in beverages UK market

It is estimated that we drink 95 million cups of coffee (instant, freshly roasted, ground coffee) every single day. Approx. 48% take sugar in their coffee so the average figure for sugar used by coffee drinkers is around 45.6 million.

For tea, it’s estimated that we drink 165 million cups of every single day. Approx. 48% take sugar in their tea so the average figure for sugar used by tea drinkers is around 79.2 million. The figures don’t take into account that most people who take sugar in the coffee or tea use more than one stick/sachet/spoonful per drink.

Therefore, it would be a conservative guess that somewhere in the region of 124.8 million sugars are consumed here in the UK every day, the majority of which is refined granulated white sugar.
